Noted historical sites include the Spanish American War/U.S.S. Maine monument, the Civil War cannon, the Indian bedrock mortar, and the cast William Harding Nature Area cement bird bath (1920's). Historical plaques throughout the park including the "J. E. Pleasants" tree, "Irvine Park" flag pole, "Irvine Park" stone monument, O.C. Historical Commission's "Oak Grove", and the 1983 rededication plaque.
The Harding Nature Area provides an opportunity to observe a wide variety of native California plants. The nature area is located on the south side of the park, along a restricted access roadway.
This area began as a project of the Orange County Bird Club. In the late 50's, this site was selected as one with less potential for other types of recreational development, so the Club created a nature trail.
